THE PRE-LAUNCH BRIEFING
We are always amazed at how many educators tell us that “I just hate getting up in front of a crowd!”. Whether you like public speaking or not a few words at each launch (even if you are launching a single model rocket) will go far in keeping your range in order. Long speeches thanking your third grade teacher for giving you the “courage to succeed” are really not necessary!
A good pre-launch briefing should include the following points:
(1) A quick description of the main areas of the range along with (for spectators especially) a description of what will be happening.
(2) A brief description of the Range Safety Diagram, how it applies and where it is posted on your range.
(3) A general explanation of the Safety Code and directions to where it is posted on your range (if you have spectators this is a great time to explain why “we never catch rockets!”).
That wasn’t too bad was it? A little planning really yields results!
Now that the range is organized you’re ready to launch....right? The answer is a little bit of “yes and no”. Yes - you are
ready to launch but no - you’re not prepared to launch until you assemble a couple of items into something commonly known as a “range box”.
